Hi there!
A few weeks ago I received 4 luna moth cocoons from a teacher who intended them for her (now cancelled) classrooms. Two of them already emerged and I set them free shortly after last week. One of them has never shown signs of life, so I fear it didn’t survive. The other has yet to emerge. Is it possible it will overwinter and if so, how should I care for it? Should I put it outside in the leaf litter and let nature take it’s course? Thank you!

This beautiful moth was on the railing of our log cabin porch but is now on the ceiling. Saved your article for my granddaughter to read. Today’s date: June 20th, 2020.

My Friend and I just found a Luna Moth Caterpillar Crawling across a parking lot between landscaped islands, planted with young, small trees. We didn’t think it would do well on the pavement, so we brought It home to release on, or in a Black Walnut tree. The Cat is quite large.
Where would it be best to place it,
Assuming It may be ready to pupate?

Hello,

We have observed several Luna Moths here at our home and small hobby farm in Groton /Hebron NH.

We also have a spectacular array of birds.

Such a healthy wildlife conservation area.

“Moths can also be attracted to a mixture of sugar and overripe fruit smeared on tree trunks.”  Yipes!  Is there anywhere in New England that you could put this on trees and not attract bears?
