Climate Adaptations

Climate change is bringing warmer and wetter conditions to the Northeast, with many implications for the forest products industry. An unpredictable winter season requires flexibility, and forest owners, foresters, loggers, and mills are adjusting to changing weather and ground conditions in order to achieve stewardship goals while still meeting consumer demand. In Strengthening the Chain, researchers Alison Berry, Steve Bick, and Al Steele investigated the impacts of climate change on the forest products supply chain in the Northeast, with support from U.S. Forest Service’s State and Private Forestry program and in partnership with the Vermont Department of Forests, Parks and Recreation. The following two publications provide the complete results from their study and corresponding supply chain implications:
