Join us for an afternoon workshop with Clare Walker Leslie, nationally known artist, naturalist, educator, and author of 15 books on connecting people of all ages to the nature around them, using both writing and simple drawing. No experience needed; just curiosity and an interest in recording the nature around the Northern Woodlands office in Lyme so you can continue recording on your own. As climate is shifting and changing everywhere we live, it is becoming more and more important to record.

Nature Journals have a long history in the study of science, before the era of camera and digital. Scientists had to record by hand the observations they were studying. Today, the best accounts of these consistent and careful recordings of nature come from Henry David Thoreau.

We will have fun. Clare will actively demonstrate how to draw a bird and a tree for you all to follow. You will leave with a Nature Journal begun - date, place, weather, small images of what is growing and living right by you; right now, and how it will change tomorrow.

Bring your own small pad of paper, a few medium/regular pencils, a few ballpoint and/or felt tipped pens, maybe a few colored pencils, a bag for carrying; suitable outdoor clothing, water bottle, and binoculars.

Clare’s books will be available for sale. You can learn more about her work here.

Tickets are required for this workshop and available at a sliding scale, starting at $30. Space is limited. Get your tickets here.

THIS EVENT WILL NOT BE STREAMED OR RECORDED
