We’re pleased to name Meghan McCarthy McPhaul as the next editor of Northern Woodlands magazine. Meghan first wrote for us over a decade ago and has worked on the editorial staff since 2020. In her current role as associate editor, she edits the ecology series The Outside Story and the interview series Community Voices in addition to playing an essential part in the editing of the magazine. As editor, she will oversee production and editorial direction of the magazine and related digital content, cultivate a growing network of writers, illustrators, and photographers, and help develop special publishing projects in service of the nonprofit’s educational mission. In assuming this role, Meghan succeeds Elise Tillinghast, who directed The Center for Northern Woodlands Education (CNWE) from 2012 until 2024 and also held the editor position from 2023 onward. Meghan’s new duties will officially begin December 1 and represent the natural continuation of her record of dedication and excellence at the CNWE. “I’ve admired Northern Woodlands since long before I wrote my first piece for the magazine several years ago,” she says. “I’m looking forward to my shift in responsibilities within the organization – and the opportunity to continue working with our fantastic team to create a publication filled with the good information, insight, and beauty our readers have come to expect.”
Congratulations, Meghan!
