While walking in a milkweed patch at dusk, Tig Tillinghast found a flower crab spider that had just ambushed and immobilized a fly. “It was difficult to get adequate depth for this photo,” said Tillinghast. “I used a narrow aperture and an off-camera flash to provide enough light, and held the 100-millimeter macro lens approximately 7 inches away from the spider, in order to get maximum magnification while still focusing.”
