A maple leaf frozen in time (and ice) near the edge of a small pond in northern New Hampshire. “The blue seen in the shot is the reflection of a cloudless sky,” said Kaczmarek. “The leaf is still embedded in the ice. More than likely a thaw, followed by a refreezing, buried the leaf in a new layer of ice, leaving only its impression visible.”
