Jackie Robidoux captured this great blue heron pair during a late winter snowstorm in Horse Hill Nature Preserve in Merrimack, New Hampshire. A photographer and wildlife rehabilitator, Robidoux has been photographing herons and other wildlife at the preserve for several years and has seen the large birds return to their rookery here as early as February. “In the past 20 years, I have noticed more great blue herons staying all winter long in marshes and along the coast in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, and Maine,” she said. “As long as there is open water and plenty of food, they seem to adapt.”
