On a perfect January day, climbers Majka Burhardt and husband Peter Doucette cross a frozen Lake Willoughby in Vermont’s Northeast Kingdom in search of vertical ice. Lake Willoughby stretches 5 miles, and steep cliffs rising along the eastern shore of the lake provide world-class ice-climbing routes.
