This chair will put its arms around you; now you can put your hands on this chair!
Northern Woodlands is raffling an heirloom quality continuous arm Windsor chair, handmade in Vermont by craftsman George Ainley of Fine Windsor Chairs. A limited number of chances for $20.00 each will be sold between now and June 1, 2012. Join in the fun of our first raffle! It’s a superb prize, a good cause, and your chances of winning are 1:400.
To learn more about George and his work, check out his Northern Woodlands article from Winter, 2006, “The Wood in Windsor Chairs.”
And now the fine print: we will have the chair shipped (likely FedEx) to any address in New York or New England at no cost to the winner. Shipping outside our territory will be at the winner’s expense. The picture of the chair is representative of the raffle chair, not a photo of the actual chair. Checks must be received by 5:00 PM on Friday, June 1, 2012 in order to be eligible. No online transactions will be accepted after that same date and time. We will not be mailing ticket stubs to buyers.
We thank George Ainley and the Guild of Vermont Furniture Makers for their support in making this raffle possible.
The proceeds from this raffle will support
the mission of Northern Woodlands.

Chris Jones is a clever guy with an eye for quality details that he brings to all of his turnings. He collects burls and other character woods from our region to make delightful live-edge bowls, platters, and other useful and beautiful items for our homes. But oh - these rattles are something very special!
Each one is unique, each has its own “life”. They measure about 3.5” tall and 2” at the belly - perfect for chubby little fingers to wrap around. Sanded smooth and lightly coated in bees wax only, welcome the new person in your life with a gift to keep forever. (It’s likely that person will be a young child, but I can’t seem to put the one I’m holding down for long. It’s just beautiful!)

Don’t dogear that page! Mark your place with our handsome hardwood bookmark. Measuring 6” by 1”, they are engraved by skillful hands. If you are giving a book as a gift, wouldn’t this be the perfect complement to remind the reader of the beauty and utility of wood from the Northeast?

Harvey Bartlett graded lumber at his family’s mill in Connecticut for many years before becoming a minister and moving to Vermont. That early experience left him with a reverence for the trees of the Northeast and an eye for the distinct characteristics in its lumber. His tree puzzles are made from the “special collection” of boards he’s had squirreled away for years. An apple tree from Newbury that fell in a storm, a cherry with a lot of heartwood from home. He could tell a story about each one. They measure 7.5"w x 6.5"h x .5"d, sanded smooth and hand-rubbed with oil. Let us select a species for you.
Can’t be outside as much as you’d like? Plant a tree puzzle close by - it just might help.

These bangles, hand-turned by Chris Jones from Bradford, Vermont, are story tellers - silent communicators. Made from regional hardwood burls, spalted blocks, and craggy limbs, this is wood with history and character. The simple design and smooth bees wax finish draw out the unique character of each piece. Comfortable to slip on and wear, the opening diameter is a tad over 2.5” and they are 1” wide. They are simply gorgeous.
Northern Woodlands offers you one more “new way of looking at the forest”.
